Child Custody Evaluations
Dr. Edwards is academically and clinically trained in family Court-ordered evaluations and interventions, which serve the best interests of the child and the Courts. As a forensic clinician, it is imperative to remain neutral and unbiased while serving in our professional roles. Dr. Edwards utilizes the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Guidelines for Child Custody Evaluations in Family Law Proceedings in each of her evaluations. She also consults and integrates the Association of Family & Conciliation Courts (AFCC) guidelines when appropriate. She focuses on the importance and intricacies of family dynamics while keeping the best interest of the child the top priority. Dr. Edwards was trained, and engages in, the comprehensive model of child custody evaluations and, as such, will treat each case individually and thoroughly according to ethical and legal standards. In order to provide the highest level of analytics, Dr. Shannon Edwards utilizes Child Custody Analytics.
Mitigating Circumstance EvaluationsAt times, triers of fact will be called to weigh in on the significance of the aggravating and mitigating factors of a criminal case and to use such judgments to decide various forms of sentencing for defendants. Dr. Edwards’ unique Psy.D. in Clinical Forensic Psychology, afforded her the opportunity to be academically trained in psychology as it relates to our criminal justice system. In doing so, she is able to integrate clinical principles, ethical standards, and instruments with forensic assessment tools to construct these types of specialized evaluations for the Court. Dr. Edwards’ experiences within jails, prisons, and other correctional facilities, have allowed her to complete these evaluations frequently while utilizing an inclusive evaluation protocol for the Court.
Co-Parenting TherapyIndividuals who have previously been involved with high conflict divorce can benefit from therapy at various stages in the relationship, specifically when children are involved. Dr. Edwards specializes in co-parenting therapy, which aims to separate couples’ former relational hostilities from their ongoing parental responsibilities. This particular therapy also focuses on achieving an amicable co-parenting arrangement, determined and outlined by the co-parents, in order to decrease the stress on any children involved, as well as the family dynamic as a whole.
Court-Involved TherapyDr. Edwards also specializes in court-ordered interventions, as determined by the Court. At times, judges will determine individuals could greatly benefit from attending therapy as part of a sentencing phase or plea agreement. Dr. Edwards utilizes empirically and evidenced based brief therapy models. These models are designed to engage each individual, as well as meet the individual where they are with regard to their motivation to change.
